More bits of writing news

I'm going to be teaching a poetry course at the Waterloo Community Arts Centre (the Button Factory) in late October / early November. It's four weeks; I'll be doing two, and Rae Crossman will be doing two. I don't have more details yet, but if you're interested, let me know, and I'll send them to you when they're available. Cheap as these things go: $35 for WCAC members, $45 for non-members, or $10/$12 for a single course.

Last night I spoke and gave a poetry reading at the Literacy Group AGM. I wanted to thank Cathy Middleton, the outgoing Exec, and Margaret Neigh, the incoming one, for inviting me,and for treating me so well. I had a wonderful time -- a warm and generous audience.

I'll be at The New Quarterly booth at Kitchener's inaugural Word on the Street on Sunday, from 3 to 5. Word on the Street has been running in Toronto for years -- but this
is the first year here in KW. It's a great chance for the local reading, writing, publishing, and bookselling communities to get together. Plus, it promises to be a lovely fall day in Victoria park. See you there!

The latest issue of Event came yesterday -- which I mention because I'm in it. What a treat! I'm in the company of poets I admire, including George Elliot Clarke, Patrick Friesen, KW's very own Alison Pick, and -- wonderfully! -- Betsy Warland, who I'd be honoured to call my mentor if that weren't overstating things. Event took three of my new longer narrative "hagiography" poems, from the Lives of the Saints Collection. It's especially good to see "Acta Thomae" published at last. Anybody who's read "Runes" before -- I found the courage to submit it. Now I just have to face up to seeing it in print.

Happy writing news! I’m so glad to hear you’re going to be teaching.
As for being published, I’m glad you had the courage to submit. As for courage to read it in print, just think how you have the strength to share things that are rough with your online audience. Of course I feel bad that I don’t recall “Runes”. Does the archive have a “search?”
