He: "I think I want to have your children."
She: "That's great, we can take turns. You go first."

I sometimes wish I were a fiction writer, so I could put all these magpie gatherings to use. But no one would believe half the things I see on an average day.

I am constantly jotting down scraps of conversation I overhear, too. I want to remember things like my four year old nephew saying, “Where is heaven? Is it in Hollywood?”
Recently I overheard another student talking about how she is a compulsive shopper…this led to her saying “Do I really NEED turquoise cowboy boots?”
So I think the scraps are easier to believe than you think. Anyone who eavesdrops has heard much crazier. They can also be worked into narrative poems, not just prose.
