Psalm 36 (there is an oracle in my heart)

There is an oracle in my heart
     a pool reflecting

poisonous I am poisoned
proud am paralyzed
timid, shut
          in trembling

Lord, there is an oracle
in my heart a pool reflecting

how can I bear this
harder than mountains your love
lit inside me

I am too little for this, Lord, let me
come into your house
like a child
          taking off my shoes

or should that be “kicking off my shoes”? — more childish, more specific and evocative of gesture, but losing some of the overtone of reverence …

I imagine you’ve already decided this, but using the word kicking would undercut the reverence.
