Psalm 65 (in the tilling of the land the Lord is)

In the tilling of the land the Lord is

the plow that takes the rabbit
          and the rabbit
the breaking earth in curls and clods

He lies in the furrows
they grow sweet with shadow

The blessing of the Lord broods over the fields
and the fields blossom

Abundance like cloth woven loosely
     drapes the field corn
Embroidered pasture goldenrod & wild carrot
     beaded with cattle

Let the hills sing
Let the threshers come home in the twilight
     blistered and singing

_______________

I started out doing a fairly literal rendering of the end of psalm 65 -- not as a poem but as a gift to my grandparents, three living, farmers all. But it sort of got away from me again. More Psalms and stuff, here.

I love it and have linked to it. I read it and then went to the English Standard Version and the Message (the later not being your favorite, I know) and all three combined to bless me last night as I lay me down to sleep.
