The Strawberry Girl

Outside the window at Tim Horton's, four students from Kitchener Collegiate are smoking. Three boys slouching black coats, a strawberry girl in sneakers and turquoise fleece pants rolled up past the ankle and pink fleece top and pink glittery gloss.

The strawberry girl, grinning a challenge, goes up en pointe for the boys. Minces a few steps. Her ankles are bare and strong.

She doesn't need to do this; they are already watching her and looking away.

So often you seal the moment in the very last line. You did it again, “and looking away”.
