KW Arts Awards

Guess who won the KW Arts Award in literature!

It's an honour just to be nominated -- I was just nominated last year -- but I have to say that winning is a lot more fun. (For one thing, you learn the statuette is heavy -- I mean, you could defend the prime minister with this thing.) Amazing to be in a ballroom full of artists, and breathtaking to be singled out from them.

I have to thank Kim Jernigan and the gang at the New Quarterly for the flowers and cheering and (I suspect) the nomination. I owe Kim some percentage of royalties as my unofficial agent -- she is forever talking me up to the right people and sticking poems under the right noses. Of course, a percentage of royalties means I can buy her breakfast ... just about.
