Book Day! a great Kitchener Event

The New Quarterly is co-hosting the 4th Annual Canada Book Week Event - Readers at Play this Thursday (April 22nd) at 7pm at the Kitchener Public Library. The event is in support of the Literacy Group of Waterloo Region. Tickets are $10; you can get them at the door.

Readers at Play is a twist on the traditional Writers at Work panel -- in this one, readers, not writers, read from their favourite books. Past readers have choosen love poems, Jamacian ghost stories, and great new work from people like Urquhart and McLeod. Plus, this is the event where I learned about Freddy the Pig!

This years readers include arts advocate David Scott, librarian Ann Wood, book store owner Paul Wilson, and story teller Mary-Eileen McClear. Michael Higgins, always a treat, is moderating. Musical entertainment will be provided by guitarist and TNQ editor Mark Spielmacher.

Schmoozing, snacks, music, literature, and money for the Literacy Group. Come on, what more could you want?

And happy birthday, transit geek was the previous entry in this blog.
