linked haibun II

in response to linked haibun I, over at Sharon's site.

_________

In my first memory I'm walking down stairs. The dim geography of the house where I was born. I had a room at the top of the stairs. The stairs had a corner halfway up. A window there. From the bottom it looked as if the stairs climbed to the window, but my room was past even that. I think I was lonely. The floors were hardwood and I remember them very cold. Downstairs a hallway, my parent's room and my baby sister's. There must be more but I don't remember. A front room with a heavy furniture, an oriental rug with patterns I make into vines or frogs or flowers.

In my first memory I am walking down the stairs. The middle of the night; blue moonlight. The dog, her toenails clicking. Usually I climb in with my parents. I don't. I had a dream that I went downstairs, into the front room. So, I go downstairs, into the front room. It is the same, but more so. The room itself is dreaming.

I don’t understand this form, but it makes for interesting reading. You seem to distill the text more each time. Is that the idea? Then at the end you are left with the essence.
