Rejection from Beliot
Got a really nice note with my rejection slip from the Beliot Poetry Journal today. So pleased. Unsurprisingly, they liked "How even the holy cover their faces" and "On seeing the pictures from Abu Gharib" better than the you-never-know stuff I sent to round out the submission.
I want to see "How even the holy" published before next spring, when it will appear in the book of biblical poems, so I think I will send these to Event from here. Event is a great mag with a record-breaking turn-around time, and they seem to have a fondness for the narrative, the strange, the ... not the usual lyrical confessional.
Tonight I'm off to Descant's launch party in Toronto. See some of you there!

According to their lineup of past poets (Anne Sexton, Philip Larkin, etc.) Beliot is a very distinguished mag to be rejected nicely by!
BPJ is a deeply swell magazine, and one day I shall appear within its hallowed covers.
Descant, by the way, throws a great party.
